About Bottin Wines

Italian vines - Australian wines

My name is Paolo Bottin and my wife is Maria. My Father Anselmo and Uncle Ferdinando Bottin, migrated to Australia with their family in 1954 from Treviso in northern Italy, where they were grape growers. Quality farming is a long and proud tradition in our family.

We’ve long been suppliers to some of the bigger names in Australian wine and have typically grown traditional varieties to suit the needs of those wineries. However, a trip to Italy in 1998 inspired us to do more. A reminder of the distinct similarities in climate and coastal influences between the Italian vineyards and those at McLaren Vale reminded us of the goal we’ve always had – to produce Australian wines with traditional Italian varieties. My love for Barbera and Sangiovese was sealed during a vintage in Pavia I came straight home to plant both varieties in our family plot, my father was finally happy!

In the short time we’ve been producing our small batch of Italian varieties we’ve won a gold, two silvers and a bronze at the Australian Alternative Wine Show. Also a Bronze at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.
